"Fifth root of -1", by Mr. Z. | Mr. Z. is a recent graduate of MIT, where he majored in physics, but also spent a lot of time studying math and computer science. He went through MIT's excellent teacher certification program, which is run in collaboration with Wellesley College. Mr. Z. has a wide variety of hobbies and interests, ranging from forestry and biology to electrical engineering to martial arts to fractals, a type of mathematical artwork (image to left). His favorite television show of all time was Square One, which was a math show on PBS years ago. Some of his favorite books are Fahrenheit 451 (by Ray Bradbury), Speaker for the Dead (by Orson Scott Card), and Invisible Man (by Ralph Ellison). This is Mr. Z.'s first full-time teaching experience, but he has taught for two summers at Citybridge, a residential summer school for Boston and Cambridge students. Since he's so new at this, the more feedback you can give him on how class is going, via the website, the faster he can get better at teaching. This is Mr. Z's message page.
