HIV-AIDS

a) Here are two facts about the HIV virus that are related somehow. Explain what the connection is.

1) The HIV virus spends most of its life cycle in the lymph nodes, where it grows inside of lymphocytes, eventually killing them.

2) When HIV first gets into the body, if it can avoid being killed by white blood cells, it will try to sneak inside a monocyte.

b) HIV infection eventually leads to AIDS, a condition where the immune system becomes unable to fight off infection. What in the facts above explains why AIDS disables the immune system?
